Urupia The project officially took off in 1995 with the purchase of some farm buildings and about 24 hectares of land in the countryside in Francavilla Fontana, Upper Salento. We started with the renovation of buildings and the cultivation of the land of the Commune, both in terms of advanced years abandonment. Since then all the basic facilities were made: water, electricity, gas, heating, a pilot plant (the first in Italy) for phytoremediation of sewage, two solar systems for hot water, a dense network of pipes for the irrigation of crops in the countryside. Several residential areas have been renovated, as well as many of the infrastructure of everyday life: the kitchen, bathrooms, stores, bakeries, several laboratories, shelters for tools, a serviced campsite for summer guests, a room for storage and the sale of a new basement, a shed for the social and cultural activities. The land was almost all put under cultivation more than 15 hectares of olive groves, three and a half hectares of vineyards, several acres of orchard, field crops, orchards.
